Chairwoman Porcupine’s Patchwork Lasagna
Chairwoman Porcupine from the Quilt Drive doesn’t separate fiber arts from supper. “We’re just fast with a thimble,” she said — and apparently with a casserole dish.
What landed in my mailbox
“No-boil noodles, but stagger the overlaps — like patchwork, not brickwork. Ricotta, spinach, roasted red pepper, a layer of thin-sliced zucchini for ‘green sashing.’ Sauce from scratch if you love yourself; jar plus garlic if you love the clock.”
I built it in a clear dish so I could see the stripes — pure theater. Baked till the top looked like a ribbon prize at the fair.
Carl’s verdict: Five stars. It feeds a crowd and doubles as a metaphor. I added a pinch of crushed red pepper; Porcupine texted: “Spice is just another thread.”
