Horned Toad Holds Nerve on Eighteen; Caliche Coyotes Golf Takes District

CREOSOTE COUNTRY CLUB— Junior sensation Hank Horned-Toad—yes, the school allows the hyphen—rolled in a downhill twelve-footer on the home nine to clinch medalist honors and punch Caliche’s ticket to regionals. His playing partner described the stroke as “rude,” then hugged him anyway.

Team scoring held up despite a capricious wind that rearranged ball markers and one mother’s sun umbrella. Coach Mallard credited “course management and not trying to be television on the par fives.” Mesquite Prep finished second; their anchor, senior Piper Plover, birdied three of the last six to nearly force a playoff.

Tournament director Mr. Coyote reminded galleries that cheering is encouraged “within the bounds of golf clap and Christian charity.” The snack bar sold out of iced tea; civilization endures.
